Fairy Tale Day

On Fairy Tale Day, the historic buildings of our museum are transformed into enchanting story settings: in the cozy historic rooms, a variety of well-known and lesser-known fairy tales are read and told. The unique atmosphere of the Thuringian Open-Air Museum Hohenfelden makes this day truly special.
 

Flax Festival

In cooperation with the project “1qm Linen”, visitors can experience how the flax plant was traditionally processed into durable linen – an essential part of rural everyday life. Craftsmen and women demonstrate the elaborate steps from retting, breaking, and heckling to spinning and weaving. Various hands-on activities complete the day.
Participants of the project also have the opportunity to process their own flax on site.
 

Apple Day

Autumn has arrived – and with it, apple season begins. On Apple Day at the Thuringian Open-Air Museum Hohenfelden, everything revolves around this traditional fruit, which once was an indispensable part of every farmhouse garden.
 

“Doors Open with the Mouse”

What actually happens behind the scenes of an open-air museum? On this special day, we open the doors to areas that are usually hidden from view. Children (and curious adults) can discover how historic buildings find their way into the museum, how they are restored – and what all the small details inside the houses reveal.

As part of the nationwide German event “Doors Open with the Mouse”, the Thuringian Open-Air Museum Hohenfelden offers exciting insights, creative hands-on stations, and plenty of space for exploring, discovering, and asking questions.
