The Residential Barn from Heinersdorf

One of the last South Thuringian log houses has stood on the Eichenberg since 2024. It originates from Heinersdorf (Sonneberg District) and was built there in 1709. For its construction, fir and spruce beams up to 18 meters long were used. Over the centuries, the residential barn was remodeled several times by its owners.

We present the house as it appeared in the mid-20th century. By that time, the living room (Stube) had already been plastered, and the former “black kitchen” had been converted into a modern kitchen. The original straw roof was replaced with Coburg heart tiles.

A permanent exhibition inside the house tells the story of the people who were forcibly resettled from the East German border region in June 1952.
