Old Parsonage and Village School
In the center of the village of Hohenfelden, right next to the church, lie the former parsonage and the “Old School,” both part of the Thuringian Open-Air Museum.
The Old Parsonage ensemble consists of a residential house, a stable, and a barn. All the buildings were erected in the early 19th century in half-timbered style and today serve as exhibition spaces. In the former parsonage, you will find special exhibition rooms as well as the museum restaurant Einkehr zur Alten Pfarre.
A well-known landmark of the museum is the dovecote from Wiebelsdorf (Saale-Orla district), which was relocated to the parsonage. A farm garden and an orchard complete the ensemble. Within the garden, a beehouse and a fruit-drying house have also been reconstructed.
Right next to the parsonage stands the Old School, built in 1811. On the ground floor is the large one-room school hall, furnished as it would have looked in the 1950s. Schoolchildren can experience a lesson here just like in the past (by request). The upper floor contains a teacher’s apartment from the same period.
During the main season, visitors may also tour the Hohenfelden church. We would like to thank the Hohenfelden parish for opening the church to our museum guests.
