Crafts Day with Grand Museum Festival
12 April 2026 | 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Every year, shortly after the start of the season, the popular Crafts Day with Grand Museum Festival takes place on the museum grounds “Am Eichenberg.”
The special feature of this day is the opportunity to watch traditional craftsmen at work. Many of these trades have become rare and can now only occasionally be experienced. The historic buildings on the Eichenberg provide a unique backdrop in Thuringia for the crafts on display.
Visitors can watch basket weavers, wood turners, wood carvers, shingle makers, clay builders, and many others. Also featured are felting, wool dyeing, and spinning demonstrations. The blacksmithing demonstrations in the historic forge from Gügleben are always a highlight.
Of course, the products made by the artisans can be purchased directly on site and taken home.
The craft demonstrations are accompanied by a small market featuring regional products and numerous hands-on activities for young and old alike.
Food and drinks are available, and free parking is provided in front of the museum grounds.
